What to Expect from an EMDR Intensive

  • All potential clients receive a complimentary 20-30 minute consultation via video or phone—a chance for us to connect and explore how I can best support you. This conversation isn't just about ensuring I'm the right therapist for you; it's about creating a comfortable and confident space for you to share what's on your mind. We'll delve into what's bothering you, how it's impacting your life, and I'll introduce you to the transformative world of EMDR intensives.

During our time together, I'll share not only about EMDR but also about my own experiences and expertise, helping you feel more acquainted with the process. If, after our conversation, you feel that an EMDR intensive isn't the perfect fit for you, no worries! I'll be more than happy to provide you with referrals to other exceptional therapists in my network.

On the other hand, if you decide that an EMDR intensive is the right path for you, we can seamlessly move forward. I'll assist you in scheduling your appointments and ensure you have all the necessary paperwork to kickstart this empowering journey. Looking forward to the possibility of working together!

  • Your journey with us starts well before your initial session. Upon enrollment, you gain access to a secure client portal where you can fill out assessments and share insights about your background. I thoroughly review this information ahead of our meeting, allowing me to ask any necessary follow-up questions during our scheduled appointment. This 1st session serves as a platform for us to establish a deeper connection, enabling me to gain a better understanding of your unique needs, and providing you with an opportunity to articulate your goals for the therapeutic process. In the realm of EMDR, this marks the initiation of Phase One.

We will dive into exercises targeting past memories, present triggers, and future templates, laying the groundwork for our treatment plan and roadmap. Alongside this, we'll zero in on identifying resources and building resilience, providing you with practical tools.

This phase smoothly transitions into the initiation of the first part of your EMDR Intensive, encapsulating both Phase One and Phase Two of the EMDR process. Our focus will be on navigating the complexities of your experiences with a pragmatic and goal-oriented approach. Together, we'll work efficiently, drawing on identified resources to build a robust foundation for the transformative journey ahead.

  • Our intensive sessions will commence with resourcing and resilience-building, crucial components of our approach to processing trauma effectively. Our aim is to provide you with personally tailored resources that empower you to build resilience and a sense of agency—the determination to make the changes you desire in your life. These resources will enhance your ability to manage distress, regulate symptoms, and find calm in times of unease. They not only contribute to our process but also serve as valuable investments in your overall resilience for the future. Through this, you'll learn to regulate yourself, preparing for the subsequent processing.

Following this, we will initiate the reprocessing of past memories, addressing present triggers, and fostering the creation of positive future templates. Through the utilization of Bilateral Stimulation (BLS), we tap into your brain's inherent healing and clearing mechanism, working collaboratively to neutralize the impact of traumatic stress on your past, present, and future. It's crucial to emphasize that processing is never guaranteed.

Guided by your brain's natural inclination to heal and drawing on my extensive experience, we navigate the process of reprocessing trauma and stress together. This collaborative effort aims to synchronize your mind and body, allowing you to embrace life from a renewed, safer, and healed perspective. EMDR therapy leverages BLS to effectively reduce distress and transform negative associations linked to your trauma and stress, replacing them with more realistic and accurate beliefs.

While these sessions are intense, the feedback I have received has been overwhelmingly positive.

  • A few weeks after the completion of your EMDR Intensive, I will provide you with assessments and information to assess the progress and efficacy of our intensive journey together. Upon completing these assessments, we will follow up with a summary of your experience, allowing you to have documentation of this pivotal part of your story.

frequently asked questions

  • A Therapy Intensive is an accelerated form of therapy designed to help clients go deeper and get results faster. Instead of attending therapy one hour per week for a year, why not carve out a few days for Therapy Intensives? It’s a cutting-edge approach to help people feel better faster.

In fact, many people think of Therapy Intensives like a retreat. For those few days, you can unplug, take time off work, get a babysitter, or even stay in a hotel. This time is completely dedicated to you so you can focus on healing, reflecting, and reconnecting.

  • Therapy Intensives are more effective and efficient than normal 50-minute therapy sessions. Typically in a 50-minute session, there are at least 5-10 minutes of “check-in” at the start and usually, 5-10 minutes spent on “closing up” or “checking out” at the end of a session - Leaving only 30-40 minutes for deep therapeutic work. However, a 3-hour Therapy Intensive allows for 2.5 hours of depth work. That’s the equivalent of five 50-minute sessions or more than a month of therapy - in a single day!

  • An accelerated type of therapy called a "therapy intensive" is designed to help you go deeper and get results faster. Intensives allow you to complete the same amount of work in a few days as opposed to going to therapy once a week for a year. They are a way to help you recover more quickly.

  • Absolutely! Therapy Intensives work very well as an adjunct therapy. I would ask that you sign a Release of Information so that your current therapist and I can collaborate/coordinate to best serve you.

  • Therapy Intensives are not covered by insurance. However, if you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may reimburse a portion of the costs. It’s best to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to learn the details about your specific plan. I am happy to provide some helpful questions to ask your insurance during our consultation call.

  • A 50% non-refundable deposit is due at the time of booking your Therapy Intensive. The remaining 50% is due on the day of the 1st Intensive Session.

  • The pre and post intensive sessions occur online, while the 3-hour intensive days are available both online across PA , FL,or UT or in person in Bethlehem, PA.

  • Let’s schedule a time to talk! I’m happy to answer any questions and explore your unique situation to see if a Therapy Intensive is right for you. Click here to schedule a free consultation.

  • Great question! This depends on your goals for the Therapy Intensive. Some goals can be reached in a 1 Day Intensive (3 hours), but other goals are more complex and may require a 3 Day Intensive. I can help you determine which option would work best for your therapy goals. Click here to schedule a free consultation.
